Pareto Principle
Catholic Social Teaching: Learning and Living Justice by Michael Pennock, Written in accord with the Catechism of the Catholic Church and rooted in the sound catechetical principles of the National Catechetical Directory, these texts present a well-defined curriculum model that stresses clear objectives, careful organization, and creative methods and evaluation procedures to check the attainment of goals. Very flexible, allowing teachers to select materials to highlight and stress, each text can be implemented on various grade levels for a quarter, a semester, or a full year depending on the length and frequency of class meetings. Catholic Social Teaching: Learning and Living Justice supports the American bishops call for "a renewed commitment to integrate and to share the riches of the Church's social teaching in Catholic education and formation at every level". Catholic Social Teaching: Learning and Living Justice is intended for high school students, primarily eleventh and twelfth graders. It summarizes seven key themes of Catholic social teaching as highlighted by the American bishops in Sharing Catholic Social Teaching. The text covers these other important principles: The Principle of the Dignity of the Human Person; The Principle of Respect for Human Life; The Principle of the Call to Family, Community, and Participation; The Principle of Rights and Responsibilities; The Principle of the Common Good; The Principle of the Preferential Option and Love for the Poor and Vulnerable; The Principle of the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers; The Principle of Solidarity; The Principle of Stewardship: Care for God's Creation. The text also treats the principle of equality that holds that, despite our different talents, we are all essentially equalas God's children made in his image and likeness and the principle of subsidiarity that deals with the responsibilities and limits of government.
Principle B, VP Ellipsis, and Interpretation in Child Grammar by Rosalind Thornton, Among the universal principles are those known as the principles of the binding theory. These principles constrain the range of interpretations that can be assigned to sentences containing reflexives and reciprocals, pronouns, and referring expressions. The principle that is relevant for pronouns, Principle B, has provided a fertile ground for the study of linguistic development. Although it has long been known that children make certain kinds of errors that appear to contradict this principle, further experimental and theoretical investigation reveals that the child does know the grammatical principle, but implements the pragmatic knowledge incorrectly. In fact, discoveries concerning children's knowledge of Principle B are among the most well-known in the study of language acquisition because of the dissociation between syntactic and pragmatic knowledge (binding versus reference). In this book the authors deepen and extend the results of years of developmental investigation of Principle B by studying the interaction of Principle B with verb phrase ellipsis and properties of the interpretation of empty pronouns in ellipsis--properties of "strict" and "sloppy" interpretation. This is the first experimental study of these topics in the developmental literature. The striking results show that detailed predictions from the "pragmatic deficiency" theory seem to be correct. Many novel experimental results concern the question of how children interpret pronouns, including elided pronouns, and how they understand VP ellipsis. The authors present the necessary theoretical background on Principle B, review and critique previous accounts of childrens errors, and present a novel account of whychildren misinterpret pronouns. The book will thus be of interest not only to readers interested in the development of the binding theory, but to those interested in the development of interpretation and reference by children.
Pareto principle - The so-called Pareto principle (also known as the 80-20 rule, the law of the vital few and the principle of factor sparsity) states that for many phenomena 80% of consequences stem from 20% of the causes. The idea has rule-of-thumb application in many places, but it is commonly misused. Pareto index - In economics the Pareto index, named after the Italian economist and sociologist Vilfredo Pareto, is a measure of the breadth of income distribution. It is one of the parameters specifying a Pareto distribution and embodies the Pareto principle, which was an observation that 20% of the members of Italian society owned 80% of the wealth. Pareto analysis - Pareto analysis is a statistical technique in decision making used for selection of a limited of number of tasks that produce significant overall effect. It uses the Pareto principle - the idea that by doing 20% of work you can generate 80% of the advantage of doing the entire job. Richard Koch - Richard Koch is a management consultant and writer of several books on how to apply the Pareto principle (80/20 rule) in all walks of life.

Each chapter in the first half focuses on a single principle of ethics: where it comes from, why it's important, and how the reader can implement it in his or her daily life. As a result, instead of having three or four judiciously made sermon points, hearers have life application principles they can put into practice in their daily life -- immediately. Keeping the ethical principles in mind throughout daily life is easy to do and acting in harmony with the four princples of ethics makes for a more satisfying life.
